YMCA Scotland, Board member, Edinburgh
YWCA Scotland offers a range of practical activities that support girls and young women (aged 9 – 30) to gain knowledge, skills, confidence and leadership abilities to achieve their potential and overcome barriers they face.  Our work is targeted primarily at those who are at risk of social, economic or educational exclusion and/or who are disadvantaged due to health, family, relationship or similar circumstances. Moray Carers Project, Board members, Elgin
Their aim is to ensure that carers are recognised and valued for their caring role and to help carers reduce the negative impacts that caring may have upon their physical health, emotional well-being, employment and social and recreational lives.  For young carers to reduce the negative impact that their caring role has on their education, encourage them to stay connected with, and improve their education. Burnfoot, Hawick, - Volunteer, Borders
Burnfoot is a residential area on the north east edge of Hawick.  Burnfoot was built to provide homes for workers whose jobs were in the then flourishing Borders textile industry. Many of these jobs have gone and the unemployment rate in Burnfoot is about double the average for the Borders. A local action plan was drawn up in 2007 to create a community cafe, a pre-school childcare service and better facilities for young people. Recently an old pub located in the centre of the scheme has come on the market and has scope for conversion into a community facility. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with skills in the area of surveying, business planning and project management to help take this conversion forward. Home Link exists to provide good quality personal support to families with preschool children who are under stress and experiencing difficulties. This support is provided through our befriending service which operates in South East and South West Edinburgh and Midlothian. Home Link has around 55 fully trained volunteer befrienders who provide practical and emotional support.

Web Designer – Our web site is now in need of being updated and developed.  We are looking for a volunteer to help us to utilise the website to promote our work to a wider audience and to directly recruit volunteers and support our existing volunteers. Ideally this will also involve on-going maintenance of the site.

Accountant - Home Link is looking to recruit an Accountant to strengthen its Board and take on the role of Treasurer.

Social Worker - Home Link is looking to recruit a Social Worker to strengthen the Board and offer specific knowledge and experience of working with children and families and child protection issues. 

Minute Taker –will attend bi-monthly Board meetings and be responsible for taking minutes, writing them up and circulating them amongst Board  members.

Befriender – befrienders meet with the family with whom that are paired on a regular and agreed basis, building up a relationship of trust over a period of time through companionship and shared activities.  Every befriending relationship is unique depending on the needs of the family and the personalities of the people involved.

Bumblebee Conservation Trust - Board members, Stirling
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust was established in 2006 in response to growing concerns about the ‘plight of the bumblebee’. Signpost, Board member, West Lothian   
Signpost is a small, local, user-led charity in West Lothian which makes things happen for families with disabled children. We provide both a listening ear and practical help, so that families can either do things themselves or be put in touch with other organisations who will help to get things done. This support is vital for families facing the challenges of their child’s disability, and can make the difference between families enjoying life and the opportunities it brings, and missing out on the ‘ordinary life’ that every family should enjoy. 

The organisation is looking for up to four new trustees to join our Management Committee and take a lead role in helping the organisation to take forward its strategic plan in the most effective way. In particular, we need people to fulfil the roles of treasurer and staff liaison. Desirable skills for all trustees include knowledge of small organisations and/or voluntary organisations; good communication skills; enthusiasm and commitment; some understanding of disability’s challenges (not necessary, but helpful!). Commitment required is one two-hour evening meeting per month, plus some training events and attendance at the AGM.   Training and expenses will be offered to all trustees. Mill of Benholm, Treasurer,  South Aberdeenshire (Stonehaven area)
The Mill of Benholm Project provides training and employment to people with special needs in a cafe and gardening project funded by Aberdeenshire Council within the site of an old water mill which is a public park owned by Aberdeenshire Council.  The cafe and garden project and fundraising activities provide additional income.  The Project has a range of additional activities including education for local school children, arts workshops etc.  The Project is in the process of business-planning to significantly increase its ability to meet the potential of this beautiful and historically and environmentally special site.
